AppMuseus, digital and open source audioguides for museums

AppMuseus was born from a simple idea: that any museum, big or small, can offer a modern audio guide without depending on an app, without paying a closed license and without being tied to a provider that one day decides to raise the price or close the shop. It is a web platform with QR on each piece, online catalog searchable from anywhere in the world, multilingual content and accessibility tools. And the code is on GitHub. All of it.

The challenge For years, municipal museums and cultural facilities have been caught between two bad options: either they pay expensive licenses for closed audio guides that they cannot modify, or they give up directly on digitizing their heritage. We wanted to break this false dilemma.

What we have built

  • Web app with QR on each piece, room or route – the visitor scans with the mobile camera, without installing anything. Opens in the browser and chooses language.
  • Open online catalog – the same platform serves both inside the museum and as a window to the world to consult the collection from home, school or from the other side of the planet.
  • Rich content – audio, text, galleries, video, PDFs and complete datasheets for each piece.
  • True accessibility – audiodescriptions, videos in Catalan sign language (LSC) and easy reading integrated in a natural way.
  • Clear administration panel – content management, QR generator, redirects (so that changing a tab does not require reprinting anything) and user roles.
  • Statistics – QR scan counter, languages, most consulted parts. Actual data for reports and quotation justification.
  • Multilingual native speaker – Catalan, Spanish and expandable.

Real open source We don’t sell you a license, we sell you an implementation. The code is on GitHub with free license: you can audit it, modify it, migrate it or continue without us whenever you want. Zero lock-in.

Validated impact in real environments. Deployed in cultural facilities in Cornellà de Llobregat and Esplugues, with measurable results from day one. Ready to be replicated in any museum or cultural facility that wants to take a step forward without mortgaging itself.
