The brief

AIM has spent more than twenty years helping Catalonia move better: pedestrians, bicycles, public transport, private vehicles and parking, freight, road safety, planning and Big Data. Its clients are town councils, provincial authorities, the Catalan government, the metropolitan authority, transport operators. People who do not buy on impulse.

They asked us for the design, the website and the programming from scratch. With one condition that shaped everything else: a council engineer had to reach their own subject — the specific one — without reading the whole site.

What we did

We started with the photographs. A mobility consultancy explains itself with the street, not with icons. The home page opens with real, full-bleed photography — a cycle lane, a metropolitan avenue — and four words on top: mobilitat activa, transport, seguretat viària, planificació. The index of the business, and the first thing you see.

We organised the work into eight areas, each with its own photographic card and its own page: pedestrians, bicycles and personal mobility vehicles, public transport, private vehicles and parking, freight and logistics, road safety, mobility planning, Big Data and Smart Cities. Eight doors, and the engineer walks through their own.

We built the project catalogue as a filterable archive. Every project carries a record with three fixed fields — client, year, status — and the tags of the areas it touches, so one project can show up under road safety and public transport at once. The thumbnails are not renders: they are the drawings.

And we finished with what closes a public commission: the team page, with each engineer’s qualifications; the client logo carousel; and a contact footer in three blocks: form, phone with opening hours, and address. All in Catalan, the language their contracts are signed in.

The design decision

From expertise to the project.

A technical consultancy does not sell services: it sells judgement on a specific subject. The key was turning the areas of work into the structure of the site, rather than a list inside “Services”. Someone arriving for cycle lanes gets there in one click; someone arriving for Big Data does too.

AIM · content architecture

One project. More than one way in.

One intervention can involve cycling, public transport and pedestrians. The archive connects those areas to a shared project record: client, year and status.

How it’s built

The project archive is a content type of its own, not a gallery: every project is a record with three fixed fields (client, year, status) and one or more area tags. Two things then come for free: the filters on the catalogue and the projects that show up inside each area. Publishing a new project means filling in the record; no page has to be touched.

The least showy part is the one you notice most over the years: the team video does not load until the visitor consents, the form runs through a spam filter and the area photographs are served lazily. A consultancy website does not have to be spectacular: it has to be up all the time and not go stale. Four years on it is still standing, with the same eight areas and more projects inside.

A note from us: the footer of aimsl.com is signed «Disseny i programació: estic.online». That is one of our own brands; the commission, the design and the code are the same ones.
